Whole Family Catechesis
At St. John University Parish, our catechetical year is supported by monthly Whole Family Catechesis sessions (WFC). Whole Family Catechesis is a model of catechesis (passing on of the Catholic faith) in which parents play the preeminent role in the formation of their children.
Our hope is that WFC will equip parents with tools and resources to build confidence in their ability to pass on the Catholic faith while also discovering it for themselves in ever-deepening ways.
Once per month, we are asking that your entire family attends “Whole Family Catechesis” together. Whole Family Catechesis (WFC) will include a talk, breakout sessions for the kids by age, and then gathering the family back together at the end for an activity or prayer.
In the weeks between Whole Family Catechesis, we will still have Traditional Catechesis sessions in the classroom from 9:45am-10:45am. These sessions will include Sacramental Preparation for children receiving First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. The catechists we have on the team this year are dynamic, passionate teachers who love Jesus Christ, love the faith and are excited to mentor and disciple your children.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
If you have a child between ages 3-5, there is also an exciting NEW opportunity to register for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). CGS is a world-renowned, hands-on opportunity that offers the child experiences of contemplation and enjoyment of God in a space that is specially prepared for children called the Atrium. We are blessed to have this unique program starting at St. John’s this year under the leadership and direction of Kait Patterson, who I’m sure you’ll get a chance to meet this Fall.
**Registration for CGS will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis, as space is extremely limited.
Home Study
Families who homeschool and provide religious education at home may continue to do so, but we still ask that you register so that we can keep you in the loop on parish events and catechetical opportunities for children and adults.
